Almost everybody has a soft spot for sweet stuff, so it's no surprise to learn that there are numerous movies about candy. We wanted to round up our favorites for you to watch, let's get into it:
No list featuring movies about candy would be complete without this classic - the 70s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory film. Based on the classic book from Roald Dahl, the film tells the story of a young boy called Charlie who finds a golden ticket to receive a tour of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Everybody knows the story by now because the film is such a classic. One thing we love about this movie is how inventive all the different types of candy are. It's still great fun to watch! You can stream this movie via HBO Max.
This one is totally different from our first pick, but still very interesting and worth watching. It's a documentary about chocolate, and how in certain cocoa plantations young children are forced to work long hours to harvest the beans that are used to create the chocolate that we consume. It's great to celebrate candy, but it's also important to buy responsibly and this documentary is a stark reminder of that.
This reboot gets quite a bit of hate, but we actually think Johnny Depp did a pretty good job as Willy Wonka (he was sort of channeling Michael Jackson we think). Plus, some of the songs in this movie are really catchy and there is loads of creative candy shown throughout the runtime. You can stream this movie via Netflix.
This documentary follows Michael Lahey, who is the grandson of famed Chicago candymaker Elmo Lanzi. Chicago is often referred to as the candy capital of the world, and the city has spawned lots of famous candy brands. Lanzi's brand was Lanzi’s Cashew Nut Crunch, and this documentary is about Lahey exploring the history of his family brand and also the history of candy in Chicago. It's also just a great movie about an immigrant who came to America with not very much and managed to build a very successful company.
