Whether or not you think aliens exist, and whether or not you think aliens would be friendly or would attack us, I think there is one thing we can all agree on – being abducted by aliens would likely be terrifying.
Despite the huge number of alien movies that are released every year, there’s a surprising lack of movies which show aliens abducting people. But they do exist, and we wanted to round up 5 of the best alien abduction movies ever made. Let’s take a look:

Under the Skin (2013)

Under the Skin is one of the most unique movies, let alone alien abduction movies, that you’ll ever watch. Featuring an eerie central performance from Scarlett Johansson, the movie follows an alien disguised as an attractive woman, as she seduces lonely men. The film features real guerilla style filmmaking, as some of the men in the movie weren’t aware that they were being filmed as Johansson was talking to them. The alien scenes are very disturbing and if we’re ever abducted by aliens, we hope it’s not like this.

NOPE (2022)

Jordan Peele’s first foray into the alien abduction genre was, in our opinion, a great success. ‘NOPE’ – which is an acronym for ‘Not Of This Planet’ – features all the hallmarks of a Jordan Peele movie that you’d expect to find, including plenty of social commentary. But the real standout moments of the movie are the abduction scenes, with one scene in particular inside the alien craft being particularly nightmare-inducing.

War of the Worlds (2005)

‘War of the Worlds’ is a classic story that has been retold many times via various media, but we feel like the 2005 ‘War of the Worlds’ movie starring Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning is very underrated. It also perfectly fits the description of an alien abduction movie, as that’s exactly what happens throughout the runtime – and the abduction scenes are terrifying. Tom Cruise actually willingly gets abducted at one point in the movie, and you get to see the full process – how they grab humans, and where they store them on their ships. We’re always shocked at how negatively this movie is reviewed, because we think it’s genuinely great. After all, it’s a Spielberg movie, and he doesn’t have too many duds.

Mars Attacks! (1996)

Ok, so ‘Mars Attacks!’ has a very different feel to most of the alien abduction movies in this guide, but it’s still a very fun and enjoyable movie that features plenty of abduction. The aliens do plenty of killing on Earth, but they also abduct plenty of people, with the scene featuring Sarah Jessica Parker getting abducted (along with her pet chihuahua) being particularly memorable. We won’t spoil what happens when they’re abducted!

10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)

There are 2 types of abduction going on in 10 Cloverfield Lane, and that’s what makes it doubly suitable for this list. You don’t get much alien action in this movie (not until the end anyway), but the drama and tension between the 3 main characters are so good that we had to include this movie in our list.
