If you’re based in the USA and you want to stream all 3 of the The Hobbit movies, plus all of the The Lord of The Rings movies for free (yes, completely free), there’s a great method that you can take advantage of at the moment (September 2026), here’s how to use it:
At the moment, you can stream all of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies for free via HBO Max, a service you can use for free via Prime Video with a free trial (even if you don’t have Prime Video). It’s super easy to start and cancel this free trial, and as long as you remember to cancel the HBO Max free trial after you’ve watched the movies and before the 7 days are over, you won’t be charged anything at all. There’s no catch – this is just a great way to stream these movies for free in crystal-clear quality without any annoying pop-up ads or sketchy websites!
All of the The Lord of the Rings movies can be watched for free during the HBO Max 7 day free trial, including the extended versions of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King.
All you have to do is:
- head to the Prime Video page for The Hobbit
- start the 7 day free trial for HBO Max (there’s a button to do that on all of the pages for the movies as shown in the images below)
- watch all of the movies within the 7 day period
- cancel the HBO Max free trial before the 7 days are up (which is very easy to do within your Account settings)
- and that’s it – you just watched all of the The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings movies online in excellent quality for free without paying anything!
As long as you cancel the HBO Max free trial before the 7 days are up, no payments will be taken, as explained on the Prime Video The Hobbit page here.
Don’t have Prime Video? No problem!
You can do this very easily if you already have Prime Video, but even if you don’t already have a Prime Video account, it’s no problem – you can still start the free trial for HBO Max as long as you have an Amazon account:
Free trials like this don’t last forever, so don’t miss out! HBO has only just re-introduced this amazing free trial for August 2026, so it’s a great offer to take advantage of.
As long as you don’t mind watching all of the movies within the 7 day period (and let’s face it, that’s really easy to do!), it’s the best way of watching The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings movies for free right now, legally, in excellent quality, and with all the extras like subtitles. You can learn more and start the free trial on the The Hobbit page on Prime Video here.
