Netflix made more films than any other studio in 2019.
2019 was a huge year for Netflix - probably the most important year they've ever had.
With increasing competition from the likes of Disney, Apple and NBC, Netflix really had to step up their output to ensure they maintainted their position as the number 1 streaming platform.
And to give Netflix credit, they have certainly managed to achieve an incredible output this last year, releasing almost 60 films. Even with the limitations they've had put on them, that is a pretty impressive output.
And they weren't just churning out garbage either. Movies like 'The Irishman' and 'Marriage Story' are Oscar contenders, and their quality helps to further legitimize Netflix as a film company.
Disney might have 'The Mandolrian' and an impressive back catalogue, but it still feels like they're a long way from creating anything as daring or special as a 3 and a half hour Scorcese film starring De Niro, Pacino and Pecci. Maybe we'll be proven wrong in 2020.
