Netflix has spent "$70 million" on Oscars marketing
by Ralph Jenkins
It appears that Netflix have been really pushing for an Oscar win this awards season, as it has been revealed that the company has spent $70 million on Oscar related marketing.
Although Netflix have managed to rack up 24 nominations for the 2020 Oscars, the studio aren't actually favorite to win any of the awards. ScoJo and Adam Driver are outsiders for best actor/actress awards, but the big movies released on Netflix last year - The Irishman and Marriage Story - have zero hype around them, despite the fact that they're great movies.
It'll be interesting to see if this marketing spend pays off for Netflix, despite what the bookies say about their chances of picking up any Oscars. And if Netflix don't manage to get any wins this year, it'll be interesting to see if they continue to push for Oscar worthy content on their platform. We certainly hope they continue to produce movies like Uncut Gems (seriously, Sandler should be a shoe in for best actor).
