Because it is genuinely awesome. At first glance, Lone Survivor looks similar to several films in the genre but this is a standout movie. It works as an entertaining action war film that keeps you tense the entire time but is also a raw look at a true story from the war in Afghanistan. You connect with the characters and the relationship between them feels as real as the stunts during the hill fall scene. Some of those scenes are hard to watch and that is exactly what you want in order to even get close to understanding what they went through.
