Based on a remarkable true account of frontiersman Hugh Glass’ fight for survival after being attacked by a grizzly bear and left for dead.

In 1823, Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) guides a group of trappers through dangerous territory in a search for pelts, accompanied by his son and trappers John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) and Jim Bridger (Will Poulter). The group encounter violent resistance from the native Arikara and suffer heavy casualties.

Later, while out hunting, Glass is savaged by a grizzly bear and left on the brink of death. Glass becomes a burden on the group and Fitzgerald, seeing Glass as dead weight, is willing to go to extraordinary lengths in an attempt to ensure his own survival.

Glass, driven by his desire to exact revenge on Fitzgerald, begins an arduous journey through the barren, frozen frontier which pushes him to the limits of his endurance.
